Organize now for 2008 Relay For Life

NICEVILLE, FL - The Niceville-Valparaiso Relay For Life is scheduled for April 25-26 and your help is needed. Team captains, potential teams, cancer survivors, and any volunteers interested in being involved are encouraged to organize now.

Relay For Life is a community-developed, volunteer-driven, team event to fight cancer. It’s an overnight activity made up of businesses, families, clubs, schools, churches, and health care professionals coming together.

A person who decides to be a team captain recruits 10-15 friends, family members, or co-workers to form a team. Following the first “victory” lap led by the cancer survivors, one member of your team must be “hoofing it” during the 18 hours of track time.

Team members decorate their campsites and spend the night out on the Niceville High School stadium grounds. After dark, a very special Luminaries Ceremony takes place. Candles are lit in memory of those who have lost the battle with cancer, and in honor of those who continue the fight.

Throughout the event there is free entertainment, children’s activities area, food, special events, and good-natured competition between the teams. Teams contribute a $100 registration fee to register and each team member additionally agrees to raise a minimum of $100 to earn the coveted Relay For Life T-Shirt. Teams need spirit, good walking shoes, and the desire to stomp out cancer.
