September 2007 Children save nearly $10,000 The Teach Children to Save Program, a program of Okaloosa Saves, resulted in 97 children saving $9,907.20 in their savings accounts. The Teach Children to Save Program is a part of the Okaloosa Saves initiative that teaches and encourages people to "Build Wealth, Not Debt." Over $50,000 dollars has been saved since the program began in 2004. Okaloosa Saves is a community coalition of the national America Saves initiative. It is coordinated by the Okaloosa County-University of Florida Extension program. Six $100 U.S. Savings Bonds were recently awarded randomly to children participating in Teach Children to Save. The Savings Bonds were donated by NEW Customer Services, Eglin Federal Credit Union and Crestview Kiwanis Club. Those receiving bonds included Carla Staton, Kasey Carr and Hadleigh Robbins, all from Niceville Okaloosa Saves offers worksite and community group programs designed to motivate employees and staff to increase savings/wealth and reduce debt.
