Mullet Festival gets cookin' on October 19

Thousands of country music fans hungry for big name entertainment – and mullet! – will get their fill of both this month at the 31st Annual Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival, October 19-21 in Niceville.

Kenny Rogers, Keith Anderson, Gary Allan, Blake Shelton and The Grascals will headline this year’s annual tribute to the mullet, the humble fish that has played such an important role in Niceville’s local economy and culture.

In addition to both local and big name entertainment, the festival features high quality fine arts and home hand-crafts, and a staggering array of food concessions.

Admission to the festival is $10 per day; children under 12 get in free. The admission cost covers all of the entertainment, including the headline acts.

Discount advance sale tickets are now available at several locations in Niceville and throughout the area. Single-day advance sale tickets are $9, a $1 savings. Three-day passes sell for $25, a savings of $5.

Advance sale tickets can be purchased in the Twin Cities at the Niceville Chamber of Commerce, Perry’s Legendary Seafood and Steaks, French Quarter Grill, Niceville City Hall, Niceville Public Library, Peoples National Bank, Valparaiso City Hall and all locations of Vanguard Bank. A complete list of locations is available online at The Advertiser’s Mullet Festival Web site, MulletFestival.com.

The festival opens Friday, Oct. 19 at 12 noon. The entertainment scheduled for later that evening includes Shelton, Waylon Thibodeaux and local favorite, The BluesCrabs.

Saturday features Anderson, Allan, The Modern Eldorados and Na Na Sha. Rogers shares the stage Sunday afternoon with The Grascals and Niceville’s Jeff Fiorello. Other acts, including local school and church groups, will also perform over the weekend.

A children’s stage will feature clowns, magic shows and cartoon characters.

Sunday is Family Day sponsored by Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital. The day is alcohol-free with no sales of beer or any other alcoholic beverages taking place. On Family Day, volunteers from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital sell soft drinks to raise funds for the United Way. The two hospitals contribute the soft drinks, so every cent of the purchase price goes to United Way charities.

The festival site is located at the intersection of State Road 85 North and College Blvd. in Niceville. Complete, up-to-the minute information is available online at MulletFestival.com.
