No election in Niceville; all posts uncontested

There won’t be an election in Niceville next month. The offices to be decided – mayor and three council seats – each had only one candidate qualify to run.

Mayor Randall Wise, who has served in office since 1971, will serve another four year term. So will city council incumbents Judy Boudreaux and Al Swihart.

William Thomas is the newcomer to the council. Thomas was the only candidate to qualify to run for the seat vacated by Chip Brewer, who decided not to run for reelection. Thomas has served on the city planning commission for three years and has been a Niceville resident for nearly 20 years.

"I think he’s a very energetic, serious person who cares about the people, and I’m looking forward to him serving on the council," said Wise.

Wise speculated that the lack of candidates interested in running indicates people are happy with their city government in Niceville.

"I have to think people are satisfied with the ways things are going," he said.

The officeholders will begin their terms next month.
