Andrew Griffin to perform “Suite Brasilena”
in Niceville
(NICEVILLE, FLORIDA) - Classical
guitarist Andrew Griffin will perform the premier of his work, “Suite
Brasilena,” Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., in the Community Life Center
at First United Methodist Church of Niceville, 214 S. Partin Drive. The
three-movement piece is written in modern Brazilian style, and is
dedicated to his friend and mentor, Sergio Mendes, of Brasil 66 fame.
The free concert will be a dynamic, multimedia event, utilizing
state-of-the-art sound, lighting and video on big screens. It also
features Griffin performing music by Bach, Weiss, Tarrega, Barrios,
Bonfa and Satie, ranging from the classical and romantic to modern
genres.
Griffin, who began studying musical theory at the age of 6, holds an
undergraduate degree in classical guitar performance and jazz
composition and has done post graduate work at UCLA in film scoring for
motion pictures and television. He won an Addy Award in 2002 for one of
his commercial scores.
Besides the guitar, Griffin also is accomplished on the piano, mandolin,
banjo, brass instruments, steel drums and a soprano sax-like electronic
wind instrument. He has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra,
directed several musicals and performed professionally in numerous
musicals.
Griffin is the Creative Arts Minister at First United Methodist Church
of Niceville. He continues to perform professionally throughout the
Emerald Coast.
